Despite its significance, the origins of Gladiatorial games and other related matters still remains unknown. The goal of this research is to explore the origins of gladiators.

There are different points of views among the scientists about the present topic. There are two major versions about the origins of the already mentioned performances: “etruscan” and “campanian”. In this article, there are analysis and comparisons of the topic related written sources, materialistic statues and the modern literature. The end result of this research suggests that available resources are not sufficient enough to fully resolve the origins of the gladiatorial   performances, although Based on the comparison of the present data, “etruscan” version appears more credible. The above stated topic is practically unexamined in Georgia, for which this research should be considered as novelty.
