In the paper is discussed how St. Basil the Great used the work of Aristotle about substance (ousia) to separate the terms “hypostasis” and “ousia” in his study On the Holy Trinity. With the identification of the term “hypostasis” was cancelled the dualism, that exists in relations between “private” and “general”, “one” and “many” in the works of Aristotle, that was caused by admission of two substances, in other words, it was justified, that since the difference between private and general creates only the signs that belong to the individual, specific subject or person, we should talk about the hypothetical and personal distinction, not the substantial (first and second substance) because the homogeneous objects will have inevitably the same substance.
