In this paper I tried to analyze five performances of Aeschylus’s “The Per-
sians” of XX and XXI centuries (Karolos Koun, Greece-1966, Kristof Shrot,
Germany-1991, Martin Wuttke, Germany-2003, Peter Sellers, America-1957,
Dimitris Lignadis, Greece-2020) accordance with their historical context. The
comparison of these examples shows the consecutive and interesting tendencies of staging “The Persians” during XX and XXI centuries. As we can see, political problems, anti-militarism and self-criticism were the main issues for the directors to recall the oldest preserved ancent drama. Back to Greece and recent history, the ancent texst gets the new and extensive global meaning of unity, solidarity and empathy for the world during the pandemic period.
